Running Photoshop CS4 with Wine!! Finally
After a long search i download Photoshop CS4 and i try to make it work with wine.. and finally i can work!!
pic is a real screenshot of my desktop!!
Its good to fix antialiasing first from this post
First download Photoshop CS4 Portable from Here.
Unrar it where ever you want to run, it runs direct without install.
then download from here
gdiplus.dll and copy it to system32 folder as root (in terminal : sudo nautilus) and go to home/yourusername/.wine/dosdevices/c:/windows/system32
Download fix for Type tool from here
and copy it to system32 this one too!
then from Application-Wine-Configure Wine go Applications and add the exe file of photoshop, then select it go to Libraries and select gdiplus.dll, when you select it press Add and Ok.
you are ready .. execute Photoshop.exe from unziped folder and work!!
ps. Always need latest wine version!

could you give more details? like the wine version you're using, etc.. because i did what you've sugested and photoshop doesn't work. tks ;)
I use the latest Wine 1.1.29, do you have any error?

You have old wine versions... check if you have the latest 1.1.30 :)
i had 1.1.30 but when i get this error, i try to downgrade back to 1.1.29, but then i get same error...
i have about 100mb free disk space, is possible that this is the problem?
and do you have already wine-gecko package installed? or what is your exact config of wine?
and what about wine registry keys of adobe? in past i used to use adobe dreamweaver.
Its not registry i think because is Photoshop portable..
gecko doesnt matter for sure...
have you try to delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\

- i downloaded photoshop from your link.
- gecko is needed in startup window where you must accept licence.
- i deleted that directory, but nothings changed...
- and the registry is also needed with portable versions of adobe products, all.

i said its not gecko because i was have in my mind that you already have it from older comment (my mistake), registry needed but you dont have to do anything with registry....
just to know, here i post my experience that i do with the software i use.
it's working now.. but when I try to use, for example, the type tool, photoshop crashes. does it happen w you??

hey.. i got problems to use clone tool. when i push alt, click the area to clone, then click somewhere, photoshop give an alert saying "could not use the clone stamp because the area to clone has not been defined (alt click to define a souce point)". same for you? =/
have you try win+alt key... point the clone the release and try to clone...
I keep seeing references to PS portable, could I run regular CS4 with Wine?

Nice Tutorial. My wife use photoshop, one of the main reason to keep dual boot in her laptop. Now with photoshop running with wine and crossover her laptop only runs ubuntu.

Hi! thank you - I would be very happy if I could use photoshiop on my linux, but when I exec this photoshop, you've psoted a few seconds it works and after that time I've got wine error:
"the program photoshop.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. ...."
without any additional error.
In my command line I can see:
"wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000008 at address 0x7209ac2 (thread 001d), starting debugger..."
how can I fix it? :(

@Anon: Rename adobe_eula.dll to adobe_eula.bak.
For those not getting pass the License window, update or install wine latest beta Release (not the latest stable) that should do the trick.

sudo apt-get install wine1.2
into the terminal.

@Ricardo that is not a problem. It is just warning you about running unknown programs. You have to right click->properties->permissions and select execute. After that you can run it by clicking on it.

i did all the procedure,
i unzipped the portable photoshop in a folder,
and now,
when i open the folder of the photoshopportable
and i click the photoshopportable.exe,
a folder opens with 2 other folders inside with names $EXEDIR and $PLUGINSDIR.
i have the options to extract the folders and some other strange things.
what's wrong?

I followed your post very carefully, but I get the same result as Nektarios mentioned on May 11. If I doubleclick the executable, I get a folder

Sorry, i forgot to mention...., that Dreamweaver needs to be installed, in Program Files, and then added in wine configuration,and also added the gdiplus library. Then run the exe file you just added to aplication, from its install folder.

Hi, I followed your tutorial - really great by the way - but it didn't fix the text tool error. I double checked to make sure, and everything is in place/where it should be. Do you have any ideas?
